W&V mainstay naji is a true talent that’s had me hooked ever since I stumbled across his music a few months ago. To give listeners a peak into his mind, the multitalented artist has shared a new video titled “Creator and Thinker: An Introduction to Naji.” He dives into his musical background, the creation of his recent project The Optimist, and what he wants fans to ultimately take away from both himself and his music. Topped off with a cameo from The Kount, the video leaves us excited to watch naji and his crew continue to flourish in the near future.

Earlier this summer, W&V mainstay naji delivered his debut EP titled The Optimist. Each of five tracks placed his skills as both a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist at the forefront, culminating in one of my favorite projects to date.
The Pennsylvania-bred artist recently unveiled his first set of visuals, bringing to life the lead single from the project titled “Olu’s House.” The stacked collab features talent from RDNYSVGE, Patches, Martin J. Ballou, Grace Hopkins, and elias, if only, as well as producers The Kount and Lege Kale. As each vocalist rotates into the spotlight, the video unifies their talents to create a lush and energetic experience for fans to indulge in. The song’s cherry on top arrives as The Kount delivers a brief synth solo before diving into naji’s steamy outro.

A truly precious gem in the current wave of burgeoning artists, naji is back with his latest project titled The Optimist. The five-track exhibition of his many talents is a refreshing experience produced, mixed, and mastered by naji himself, highlighting his ability to pack a wide range of sounds alongside his heavenly vocals. The huge breath of fresh air merges avenues of electronic, soul, hip-hop, and everything in-between. Meticulously-crafted and beautifully-executed, each songs feeds seamlessly into the next, topped off with features from the likes of Jeanie, RNDYSVGE, and The Kount.

I first came across swindail when he shared his remix of “turbine blue,” an overall feel-good tune laced with his playful melodies and jazzy progressions. Just a few months later, swindail is back with his latest original titled “jussrite.” The first taste of his forthcoming EP taps naji of Soulection and Fête, as well as New Zealand duo SACHI, balancing bouncy production with their velvety vocals. The stacked collab stands as an ode to love and a major dose of upbeat grooves sure to have you dancing along.

To close out 2016, ROM and naji have joined forces for a bouncy tune titled “Kiss & Tell.” ROM pairs soft guitar chords with twinkling mallets and percussion to complement naji’s deep vocals. With a bundle of infectious grooves to vibe along with, their latest offering showcases talent from all angles and leaves us excited to follow their ventures into the new year.

I’ve been following Soulection for just under a year now (ever since I saw Esta at UCSD back in January), and being able to watch their movement continue to expand alongside their growing roster has been a true pleasure. With countless exciting things planned for 2017—like talks of a Soulection Festival—I can’t wait to see what else they have in store.
As December unravels, Soulection has provided listeners with a taste of what we can expect in the new year. Two artists from their roster, Zero Fatigue producer Monte Booker and sultry singer naji, have joined forces for a silky track titled “Mona Lisa.” Monte’s iconic production melds with naji’s infectious vocals, creating one of the smoothest listens to drop in a long time.
