Mick Jenkins Shares “Pressed For Time” Featuring GoldLink, Announces Spread Love Tour

Mick Jenkins always comes through with food for thought on each track, using his smooth, yet powerful voice to carry his multilayered metaphors and intricate wordplay. This past fall, the Chicago artist built upon his hot streak with The Healing Componentyet another step forward in his overall artistry and sound.

Although Mick has remained fairly quiet in terms of releases, aside from the Kaytranada-produced “Aurora Borealis,” anxious fans can expect two new projects in later this year. Alongside the announcement of his headlining Spread Love Tour, Mick dropped off a loosie from the archives titled “Pressed For Time (Cross My Mind),” featuring a guest appearance from GoldLink and production from monte booker and THEMpeople. This throwback is more than enough to hold us down while we await more from Mick.

Mick Jenkins Reunites With Kaytranada For “Aurora Borealis”

In 2016, we experienced the arrival of Mick Jenkins‘ and Kaytranada‘s respective debut albums—both collections helped project each artist even further into the spotlight. Following their headlining tours, the Chicagoan emcee and Montreal producer/DJ have reconnected for “Aurora Borealis,” one of the standout tracks from 119 Production‘s Countdown 2 Midnight compilation. Mick’s bountiful metaphors bellow over Kaytra’s iconic synth work, tied together with a lush hook confessing his love and admiration for a newfound light.

Mick Jenkins Reminisces In “Spread Love” Video

Poetic powerhouse Mick Jenkins has unveiled the latest set of visuals from his recent debut album, The Healing Component. The video for “Spread Love” dips between Mick commanding the crowd on-stage to clips from backstage and interacting with fans as he flows over the Sángo-produced cut. Also be sure to keep your eyes peeled for cameos from NonameKirk Knight, and more.

Mick Jenkins Teams With BADBADNOTGOOD For “Drowning”

Following recent collabs with Calez and oddCoupleMick Jenkins is continuing his stream of solo efforts with “Drowning.” The track builds upon his iconic trope that “water is synonymous with truth,” and showcases the Chicago powerhouse dabbling more with melodies and mellow vibes. Topped off with production from recent quartet BADBADNOTGOOD, the latest single from Red Bull Sound Select is another smooth collab.

Mick also teamed with director Nathan Smith to share a set of powerful visuals for the track. Indulge in The Healing Component on September 23 and revisit the first single, “Spread Love.”

oddCouple Links With WebsterX & Mick Jenkins For “Blinded”

Chicago transplant oddCouple has continued to perfect his sonic palate with a hot streak of releases this year. Following his production on Joey Purp‘s iiiDrops and Jamila Woods’ Heavn, the Closed Sessions artist is gearing to build out his résumé with his next project, Liberation.

As the first taste, oddCouple taps WebsterX and Mick Jenkins for a smooth banger. The two exchange verses over muted synths and booming 808s, balancing Webster’s in-your-face aggression with Mick’s more relaxed approach. If this is any indication of what we can expect, oddCouple is sure to solidify his spot with his upcoming releases.

Mick Jenkins Announces NA Tour With New Single “Spread Love”

As fans eagerly await the release of The Healing ComponentMick Jenkins returns with the Sango-produced track “Spread Love,” demonstrating his signature style of being able to sling out rapid fire rhymes, while still managing to step back and invoke his softer, more laid back inflection. The latter type is more evident in tracks such as “Your Love
from last year’s Waves EP, or “Vibe” from The Water[s].

Mick Jenkins also announced the release date of his THC debut album, coming September 23, following his recurring trend of releases around this time for the past two years. Jenkins will embark on 12 city North America tour with Smino for their A Quest for Love Tour, presented by RedBull Sound Select, injected in the midst of a much more exhaustive European tour.

Jenkins also recruits fellow Chicago artist theMIND, sharing a suave hook to tie the track together.

Supa Bwe // “I’ll Hurt Alone” (Stream)

As the first track off his upcoming Down Comes the Spaceman EP, Chicago’s DIY expert Supa Bwe has dropped “I’ll Hurt Alone.” The self-produced track features Supa’s hazy vocal work characterized by bursts of aggression and delivered through his poetic lyricism. His command of each track allows listeners to immediately feel his genuine passion and angst.

Supa and his crew Hurt Everybody will soon release their joint project, Potion[s], with fellow Chicago powerhouse Mick Jenkins. On Twitter, the group announced that they will officially part ways following the release of the EP. As Hurt Everybody was one of the first inspirations for me to start Waffle & Vibes, the break-up is especially bittersweet. Regardless, I’m excited to see what the future holds for each of them!
