Maggie Rogers’ “Fallingwater” Is An Anthem About Letting Go

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers returns with her single “Fallingwater,” a crisp, flowing track imbued with themes of struggle, liberation, and release. Written originally in 2016, the song was co-written by Rogers and Rostan Batmanglij, a former member of Vampire Weekend.

Rogers first entered into the public music eye through a video that racked up nearly three million views; in it, she plays her debut single “Alaska” for Pharrell during a masterclass at the NYU Clive Davis Institute. “I grew up in a rural area in the eastern shore of Maryland,” she says in the video, going to explain that while she originally made folk music, an experience in France with dance music caused her to reevaluate her personal style. What results is rich, free-spirited indie pop, punctuated by delicate syncopation and steeped in ideas of discord, harmony, and nature.
