Anderson .Paak started off 2016 on a high dropping his sophomore album, Malibu. Since the release, .Paak has toured throughout the United States, internationally, and recently released his second album of 2016, Yes Lawd!, a funky collaboration with Knxwledge. After almost a full year of activity, .Paak looked set to round off the year with the stellar project. However, in typical fashion, the artist formerly known as Breezy Lovejoy doesn’t seem to be done quite yet, dropping a superb set of visuals for Malibu staple “Come Down.”
“Come Down” is one of the most popular songs off Malibu, and for good reason. A lively, fever pitched track, it blends the woven vocals, funky rhythms, and catchy lyrics that make his music so entertaining. The music video follows in this theme, tracking .Paak and his movement inside and outside of a full bar. .Paak enters the scene bounding onto stage with the energy that many are treated to by his real life performance. Throughout the video, .Paak wanders in and out of shot, appearing as entertainer and entertainee, singer, drummer and dancer, troublemaker and trouble solver, all around uniting the club under his groovy track. It’s a video, and a song, that harkens back to old-school funk, which Paak has a penchant for paying tribute to.
Anderson’s visuals for “Come Down” are just another entry into his catalog of hits this year. His drive is astonishing and seems to be the gift that keeps giving. As the year draws to a close, .Paak shows no signs of slowing down, instead continuing the highs from which, much like the song’s refrain, it seems he might never come down from.
