Last week, StarRo released his first album, Monday, with the help of his label, Toy’s Factory, and multiple vocalists and cyphers he collaborated with on the album. Shinya Mizoguchi is a beatmaker in L.A. who left his job in Tokyo, Japan to make music for a living. As StarRo, he’s been able to find success in doing what he loves. He’s also part of Soulection, an international music platform that showcases the best electronic R&B/hip hop producers, smooth vocalists, and well-versed rappers.
On Monday, StarRo’s layered production of synth and bass melodies blend seamlessly with each track’s vocals. While each song has so many components, he makes it sound effortless. You can dance to and vibe with every song on Monday. He starts the album with “A New Day” to gently wake you up with percussive keys. On “Can’t Take It Back” StarRo works with Gavin Turek‘s luscious vocals to take you back to nostalgic R&B tunes. “YAMS,” StarRo’s collaboration with Masego, brings you an upbeat banger to groove to. StarRo pumps it up and slows it down throughout Monday and lets you feel a range of emotions.
In an interview with The Japan Times, StarRo shares, “I hope those who don’t like Mondays will when they hear this album, they get motivated. This album is all about the positive and good vibes.” Appreciate the album artwork by Geoff Kim and stream the album below.
