Jamila Woods Unveils Soulful Debut, ‘Heavn’

Jamila Woods continues to be one of the most promising artists of the year. Following lead singles “Heavn,” “LSD,” and “Blk Girl Soldier,” the Chicago artist has revealed her long-awaited debut, Heavn. The 13-track album pairs her heartfelt vocals with production from the likes of oddCouplePeter Cottontale, and Carter Lang. Woods recruits talent from around the Windy City and beyond for a few vocal appearances as well, including NonameLorine Chia, and Saba. As she floats across each dreamy soundscape, Woods solidifies her prowess as a powerful sonic force.

Woods also shared some words on the project via SoundCloud:

“HEAVN is about black girlhood, about Chicago, about the people we miss who have gone on to prepare a place for us somewhere else, about the city/world we aspire to live in. I hope this album encourages listeners to love themselves and love each other. For black and brown people, caring for ourselves and each other is not a neutral act. It is a necessary and radical part of the struggle to create a more just society. Our healing and survival are essential to the fight,” – Jamila Woods
